Fun Ways to Kick Off Summer

The warm weather is finally here and it’s time to get out and take it all in. To help you start the season right, we’ve put together this list of our absolute favorite ways to summer in the best city in the world.

      See a Parade

Charlestown’s Bunker Hill Day marks the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill — the first major battle of the American Revolution. This annual summer celebration is a more than 200-year-old tradition and features an entire week of activities throughout Charlestown, highlighted by a parade and road race on Sunday, June 11th.

      Go Back in Time

The Lawn on D brings back their Signature Series with a Prehistoric Safari. Head to the Seaport on Saturday, June 11th, to take a journey back in time to the land of the dinosaurs. Free and fun for all ages, the event features a 23-foot animated T-Rex, some cool reptiles with Animal Adventures, and much more. Plus food, drinks, and live music all day.

      Catch a Flick

Movies in the park (almost every park in the city) start up again this month — and we are SO READY. From family-friendly-fare like Shrek and Encanto to more intense entries like Jaws and Tremors — there’s something for everyone. CX Movie Nights in Cambridge is even going retro with “double-features” starting late June. All start at sundown — and all are free!

      Hit the (City) Beach

Ok, we admit it, if you can make a full day (or weekend) of it, you should definitely head to the Cape and Islands, Ipswich, Gloucester, or even beaches an hour away in New Hampshire and southern Maine. But if you want a little taste of the sand and sea without leaving the city, you might be pleasantly surprised at your list of options.

      Crack Open a Book

Is there anything better than a day at the beach reading (or listening to) a good book? We don’t think so. Just in the nick of time, Harvard Business School alumni — and some faculty — have put together this collection of their favorite summer reads. Like to read with a glass of wine in hand? Well, we happen to have a helpful list for that too.

      Have a Picnic

There’s something magical and strangely old-fashioned about a picnic in the city — and now is the perfect time to pack up a lunch, grab a blanket, and get to it. Lucky for us, there are dozens of public parks and outdoor spaces around the city that are prime picnic spots to claim your own patch of green grass and soak up the sun for as long as you like.
